Garance Franke-Ruta is a senior editor at The American Prospect, where she covered the 2004 presidential campaign. She was previously a senior writer and news editor at The Washington City Paper, D.C.'s alternative weekly newspaper. Her work has appeared in The Washington Monthly, The New Republic, Salon, Legal Affairs, the Utne Reader and National Journal, where she began her magazine journalism career. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1997 and grew up in San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas, Mexico, Santa Fe, New Mexico., and New York City, New York. She currently resides in Washington, D.C.
