Mary Ellen Sanchez

Kansas City Star

Mary Sanchez is the race and ethnicity reporter and weekly op-ed columnist for The Kansas City Star, where she has worked since 1985. She writes a monthly column for The Poynter Institute's website and is a correspondent for EFE, a wire service based in Madrid, Spain. Sanchez covers a wide range of people and ethnic communities and specializes in immigration. She has traveled extensively throughout Mexico and Central America. The National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation have recognized Sanchez’s work.
