Elizabeth Chandler
Investigative Reporter
The Charlotte Observer

Liz Chandler is an investigative reporter at the Charlotte Observer, and a 2003 Nieman Fellow. Her work has exposed flaws in North Carolina's capital punishment system, safety problems in U.S. auto racing and questionable spending of N.C. tobacco settlement proceeds. Liz recently reported on schools' under-reporting of crime and deficient discipline practices. She was a lead reporter on an Observer crime series that became a Pulitzer Prize finalist. She also shared in a 2004 IRE award for stories about lax enforcement of drunken driving laws.
