Peggy Townsend

Peggy Townsend is a staff writer for the Santa Cruz Sentinel, where she writes in-depth news features and profiles, along with a weekly column. She joined the paper in 1975, covering police and courts, and moving onto the government beat before becoming city editor in 1989. She returned to writing in 1992, winning numerous state and national awards for her reporting and writing. She won a Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism in 1995 for her story on homeless children who had fallen through cracks in the social service system and has twice been honored with a Best Writing award by the California Newspaper Publishers Association, among others. She is also a freelance magazine writer and a graduate of San Jose State University.
